The German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research - iDiv, is a hub for international biodiversity science with its central mission Detection: to promote theory-driven data-driven synthesis and theory as well the scientific foundation for management of the earth’s biodiversity.
The Synthesis Centre for Biodiversity Sciences - sDiv is the main instrument of iDiv to foster theoretical and synthetic thinking in biodiversity sciences by bringing together researchers from different projects and disciplines and creating conditions that will promote a creative process.
The research training group of young biodiversity researchers - yDiv, has been designed to educate a new generation of scientists in transdisciplinary biodiversity research.

The Opening Symposium ‘Integrative Biodiversity Research – a young discipline under time pressure’ was held on April 19th 2013.
